Pediatric Hodgkin lymphoma
through Cooperative Group’s experience
Authors: Verón D A
Abstract: Though the global collaboration in clinical trials
within cooperative pediatric Hodgkin lymphoma
study groups has resulted in continued progress,
there are still some important challenges like reducing
the cost of cure and harmonizing criteria. Pediatric
staging and response criteria are not uniform.
Because of this, comparing the results of trial series
among different pediatric study groups remains
difficult. Initiatives to harmonize criteria are desperately
needed. A dynamic harmonization process
is of utmost importance to standardize therapeutic
risk stratification and response definitions as well
as improve the care of children with HL. Thanks
to the worldwide cooperative work that started in
the International Symposium CAYAHL (Childhood,
Adolescent and Young Adult Hodgkin Lymphoma
- CAYAHL), a project called SEARCH (Staging
Evaluation and Research Criteria Harmonization)
will answer this needs and led multinational research
programs that could correlate cumulative
long-term risk factors with genetic polymorphisms
and investigate the feasibility and benefits of genetically
stratified therapy.
