Abstract: Ovarian vein thrombosis is an uncommon postpartum
complication that typically presents with pain
in the lower abdomen, fever and a palpable mass.
A fast and proper diagnosis can avoid unnecessary
invasive procedures or potential severe complications
such as sepsis or pulmonary embolism. We
report the case of a woman who was admitted for
fever, pain in the right lower abdomen and vomiting
on the sixth postpartum day, with no response
to empirical antibiotic treatment. After a diagnosis
of bilateral ovarian vein thrombosis was made, she
evolved favorably with anticoagulant therapy.
Key words: Ovarian vein trombosis,
anticoagulation,
postpartum fever
