Authors: Correa L, Minissale C, Perret R, Araujo K
Abstract: We report the case of a 25 years old male from Bolivia, admitted
for asthenia, adinamia, fever, weight loss of nearly 20 kg in 5 months, and a scarcely painful ulcerative lesion in the soft palate.
A biopsy from the palate lesion showed an infiltration of medium size neoplastic lymphoid cells positive for CD45, CD45RO, cytoplasmic CD3, CD56, EVB, with a Ki67 of 60%. The diagnosis was a non Hodgkin lymphoma of T-NK phenotype.
A polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to find out Leishmania
DNA, obtained from the ulcer biopsy, was positive.
Bone marrow smears and histopathology did not show neoplastic cells. However, reticular cells were seen with multiple cytoplasmic images due to phagocytosis of Leishmania amastigotes.
Key words: T-NK Lymphoma, Leishmaniasis.
