Thrombophilia test in childhood
Authors: Altuna D
Abstract: Pediatric venous thromboembolic disease is a multifactorial
disease associated with both acquired and inherited risk factors. In children, inherited thrombophilia contributes
to the development of pediatric thromboembolic disease and have been described as additional risk factor. Testing has increased in pediatric population to investigate
the presence of these disorders in patients with thrombosis
or asymptomatic children who have relatives affected
with thrombosis and/or thrombophilia, but whether the results of such test help in the clinical management of patients has yet to be determined. Thrombophilia testing is a matter of debate in children.
