Abstract: Epidemiologic studies help to investigate environmental, ethnic and behavioral influences in cancer ethiology. The Grupo Hematológico del Sur (GHS) assesed the occurrence of malignant blood diseased in the population living in Southern Argentine, from parallel 37 on. This interim report show data collected from january 1, 1998 to may 31, 1999. A total of 511 cases were found, with predominance of the chronic lymphoproliferative diseases (59,3%), followed by the chronic myeloproliferative syndromes (20,1%) and the actue leukemias (20,5%). Data regarding site of residence, gender and age at diagnosis are presented for comparative purposes and as a baseline for future studies.
